Grounding or earthing is a therapeutic technique that focuses on realigning your electrical energy by reconnecting to the earth. It is achieved by creating a direct skin contact with the surface of the Earth with bare feet or hands.

The Earth is like a gigantic battery that contains a natural, subtle electrical charge — a special kind of energy present in the ground. You and I are a bioelectrical beings living on an electrical planet. Our body operates
electrically. All of our cells transmit multiple frequencies that run, for example, your heart, immune system, muscles, and nervous system.

With the exception of humans living in industrialized societies, all living things on our planet are connected to the ground’s electric energy. In industrialized societies, you rarely go barefoot and walk around outside or wear natural leather shoes that allow you to absorb the ground’s energy.
We have been wearing rubber and plastic-soled shoes that act as a barrier to the Earth’s energy, insulating us from electrical contact with the Earth.
The truth is, we’re disconnected. We’re ungrounded. We are not in touch with the Earth.

Could this disconnection be an important factor in the increase of multiple sicknesses?

Connecting the body to the Earth enables free electrons from the Earth’s surface to spread over and into the body, where they can have antioxidant effects.

Benefits of grounding Grounding appears to:

  • Reduce Chronic Fatigue & Chronic Pain,
  • Reduce cardiovascular diseases,
  • Improve sleep,
  • Normalize the day–night cortisol rhythm,
  • Reduce pain,
  • Significantly improve depression, stress and anxiety,
  • Improve the nervous system,
  • Speed wound healing, and many more.
  • How do I ground myself?
  • Walking barefoot
  • Whether this is on grass, sand, or even mud, allowing your skin to touch the natural ground can provide you with grounding energy.
  • Walking on surfaces such as asphalt, plastic or vinyl is not considered grounding.
  • Lying on the ground
  • You can increase your skin-to-earth contact by lying on the ground.

Overall, grounding does make sense. Even though there’s little research behind it, smaller studies have reported its benefits for inflammation, pain, mood, and more.
